We are running a Refresher Course for
Umpires in readiness for the start of the 2012 season at the County Sports and Social
Club, Sonning Lane, Reading. RG4 6ST on the 4th March 2012.

We held our AGM on Monday 23rd January, there were some officer changes a new constitution agreed and a membership fee introduced. Follow this link to read more.

Roy Kinner and Mark Ennis are featured on pages 23 and 25 respectively. Page 10 features
an article on the work put into the planning and filling of the two Umpire and one
Scorer Level 1 courses.
The ECB were so impressed with what we had achieved that they
asked us to publish our plan and they then presented it at the recent Regional Educations
Committee Meeting at Lords. The plan is available for download on this link.
We are pleased to tell you that Avril Acres, known to many of you as our Administration Officer has just qualified as a Level 2 Scorer. Please follow this link for more information. The Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) supported by the England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB) is the organisation that represents cricket officials in the recreational
game. The ECB ACO is offering until 31st March 2012, the chance to become a recognised
ECB ACO scorer and credited with a relevant Scorers’ Award.

Scorers and Umpires in Berkshire who officiate for their local clubs or those wishing to develop and progress on and through league panels can look to the Berkshire Cricket Officials Association (BCOA) for help and support.
Accessing the Berkshire Cricket League, the Thames Valley League and the Home Counties
Premier League perhaps even to the Minor Counties game and beyond.
The County Appointments
Officer for Berkshire Cricket appoints approximately 400 umpires to ECB and County
Competitions every year. It is anticipated that the number of appointments for 2012
will be even greater.

BCOA holds regular meetings on the fourth Monday of each month at Berkshire County
Sports Club, Sonning Lane. These follow a fairly informal format of information,
debate, workshops and a variety of guest speakers.

Training courses for both Scorers and Umpires are available at Introductory, ECB
level 1 and ECB Level 2
BCOA members are encouraged to join an independent panel
or to simply hone their skills in matches for their local clubs. Please look at the
details of our comprehensive list of BCOA 2012 Courses.
We also operate a successful mentor programme to develop our officials and offer
support and advice, please contact the BCOA Performance Officer for details.

The Peter Harris Memorial Trust offers an annual Scholarship for the training of
one Umpire and one Scorer.
This comes under the auspices of the Berkshire Youth Foundation,
which has asked BCOA to administer the scholarship and select suitable candidates.
Ideally, but not exclusively, the recipients would be under 18. However, anyone
applying should be willing to dedicate time during his/her first and second year
of mentoring/assessment to youth cricket within the
County of Berkshire. Please apply
