BCOA believes that trained Umpires make a significant impact on the quality of the game as experienced by the players. It is their game.
As such we fully support the ECB training programme leading to the Officials Pathway. The involvement of our members in our original mentoring scheme in developing a best practice code has been such that much of their pioneering work has been adopted by the ECB and several of our officers are now heavily involved in various ECB initiatives.

As well as the standard training programmes BCOA hold monthly meetings where various aspects of the law and officials development are discussed and we also have a successful mentoring programme offering support and advice.
Mentoring
BCOA supports the development of umpires and scorers in many ways.
Several members
are involved in a best practice mentor scheme that was initiated in 2005 and has
grown to include more than 30 officials in County and League programmes. Much of
this work is now been adopted by the ECB
